Breaking Community Stigma & Providing Adaptive Access

Our organization was established after recognizing the daily challenges faced by many children with disabilities and their families, including limited access to healthcare, rehabilitation services, inclusive education, and community acceptance. We believe that disability should never limit a child’s potential, nor should it prevent them from living with dignity, hope, and equal opportunities.

Founded by passionate community members, ACCP exists to ensure that every child, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to access quality healthcare, rehabilitation, education, protection, and the support needed to thrive in a safe and inclusive environment.

The Problem

Across the Kigezi Region of Southwestern Uganda, many children living with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, physical disabilities, and other developmental disabilities face significant barriers that prevent them from reaching their full potential. Limited access to healthcare, rehabilitation services, assistive devices, inclusive education, and specialized support leaves many children without the care they need during their most critical stages of development.

For many families, the challenges extend beyond medical care. Caregivers often lack access to information, training, emotional support, and financial resources needed to provide consistent care for their children. As a result, many children remain isolated, experience delayed intervention, and miss opportunities to participate fully in school and community life.

Negative attitudes, stigma, and misconceptions surrounding disability continue to affect children and their families. Many communities still have limited awareness of developmental disabilities, leading to discrimination, social exclusion, and reduced opportunities for children to learn, play, and grow alongside their peers.

Amazing Child Care Program (ACCP) was established to address these challenges through community-based interventions that promote healthcare access, rehabilitation, caregiver support, inclusive education, child protection, advocacy, and community awareness. By working closely with families, healthcare providers, schools, government institutions, and development partners, we are building a future where every child is respected, included, protected, and empowered to live a life of dignity and opportunity.

We believe that every child deserves the chance to thrive. With the right support, early intervention, and an inclusive community, children with disabilities can achieve remarkable outcomes, inspire hope, and contribute meaningfully to society. Together, we can break barriers, challenge stigma, and create communities where ability is celebrated and every child has the opportunity to flourish.

Our Programs

At Amazing Child Care Program (ACCP), our programs are designed to address the diverse needs of children living with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, physical disabilities, and other developmental disabilities. We believe that every child deserves access to quality healthcare, education, protection, and opportunities that enable them to reach their full potential. Through community-based interventions and strong partnerships, we work to improve the quality of life for children and their families while promoting inclusion and sustainable community development.

Healthcare & Rehabilitation

Access to timely healthcare and rehabilitation services is essential for children with developmental disabilities. ACCP works to improve access to medical care by connecting families with hospitals, rehabilitation centers, therapists, and healthcare professionals who can provide specialized support. We promote early identification and intervention, facilitate referrals for medical treatment, and advocate for rehabilitation services that help children improve mobility, communication, independence, and overall wellbeing. Our goal is to ensure that every child receives the care they need to live a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Community Awareness & Advocacy

Misconceptions and stigma continue to create barriers for children with disabilities and their families. ACCP conducts community awareness campaigns to educate the public about disability rights, inclusion, and the importance of respecting the dignity of every child. We work with local leaders, healthcare providers, schools, faith-based organizations, and community members to challenge discrimination and promote positive attitudes toward children with disabilities. Through this,, we seek to build communities where every child is accepted, valued, and given equal opportunities.

Family & Caregiver Support

Families and caregivers play a vital role in the development and wellbeing of children with disabilities. ACCP provides training, guidance, and emotional support to parents and caregivers, equipping them with practical knowledge and skills to care for their children with confidence. We encourage the formation of caregiver support groups where families can share experiences, learn from one another, and build strong support networks. By empowering caregivers, we strengthen families and create better outcomes for children.

Inclusive Education

Every child has the right to quality education in an environment where they feel safe, respected, and included. ACCP advocates for equal educational opportunities by promoting disability-inclusive learning environments in schools and communities. We support access to educational materials, encourage collaboration with teachers and schools, and raise awareness about the importance of inclusive education. Through these efforts, we strive to ensure that children with disabilities can learn, develop their talents, and participate fully in school life.
